Spring in Philadelphia is spectacular, especially since the region is known as America’s Garden Capital, boasting over 30 public gardens within 30 miles of the city. In mid-March 2026, many of these gardens are just beginning their peak bloom cycles. Here are the top spots to visit this season:

Within Philadelphia

  • Shofuso Japanese Cultural Center, 100 N. Horticultural Dr, Peak Cherry Blossoms: The Subaru Cherry Blossom Festival is scheduled for March 28–29, 2026. It features a 17th-century-style house, a koi pond, and a tea garden.
  • Morris Arboretum & Gardens, 100 E Northwestern Ave., Magnolia & Cherry Magic: Famous for its “Out on a Limb” canopy walk. In late March and April, the flowering trees and spring bulbs create a pastel wonderland.
  • Bartram’s Garden, 5400 Lindbergh Blvd., Historic Heritage: North America’s oldest botanical garden. Visit the historic bulb collection in April to see species tulips and fragrant hyacinths.
  • Fairmount Park Horticulture Center, 100 N. Horticultural Dr., The Arboretum: Located right next to Shofuso, this is the epicenter of the city’s cherry blossom display. It’s a great spot for a spring picnic.

Near Philadelphia (The “Main Line” & Suburbs)

  • Chanticleer Garden (Wayne, PA) 786 Church Road, Wayne, PA 19087  Often called a “pleasure garden,” Chanticleer reopens for the season on April 1, 2026. It is highly creative and romantic, featuring a “Ruin Garden” and incredible displays of tropicals and perennials that change weekly.
  • Longwood Gardens (Kennett Square, PA) 1001 Longwood Rd, Kennett Square, PA 19348 The “Spring Blooms” display runs from March 27 to May 3, 2026. You’ll see a massive tapestry of tulips, plus the indoor Conservatory is currently hosting a rare Kurume Azalea Bonsai display through late April.
  • Stoneleigh: A Natural Garden (Villanova, PA) 1829 E County Line Rd, Villanova, PA 19085 A former family estate turned public garden. It focuses on native plants, meaning you’ll see beautiful native wildflowers, dogwoods, and redbuds in a lush, relaxed setting. Admission is free.
  • PHS Meadowbrook Farm (Meadowbrook, PA) 1633 Washington Lane, Meadowbrook, PA 19046 Description: Reopening April 18, 2026, this garden is organized into distinct “outdoor rooms.” It’s a hidden gem for those who love intimate, highly designed garden spaces and pollinator-friendly plants.
